The Department of National Defence (DND) is looking to hire Cooks (GS- FOS- 05). The job location will be Borden and Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The candidates will prepare nutritious and healthy food for the armed forces.

Key Responsibilities:

The candidates will be responsible for cooking meals using culinary techniques in institutional settings. They will make sure that the food is prepared safely. It is important that the food meets quality standards. The candidates will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness in the kitchen. They will apply proper food handling and safety procedures. They will work in teams. The candidates will operate kitchen equipment.

Education:

The candidates should have completed Grade 10. They should know how to perform basic maths calculations. They should be eligible to get a reliability status security clearance. The candidates should be proficient in English.

Experience:

The candidates should have experience working in a large kitchen in a commercial environment. They should have worked previously in hotels, hospitals or catering services. The candidates should have experience in preparing meals on a large scale. If the candidates have worked in a supervisory role or in a civil and military kitchen setting, that would be considered an asset.

Skills and Competencies:

The candidates should have respect for each other and their work. They should have good communication skills. They should have good time management skills. They should be able to lift 20 kg. They should be prepared to work flexible hours.
