Food Services Officer

The Ministry of Solicitor General is looking to hire 2 dedicated candidates for the position of Food Services Officer. The job location will be Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. This is an irregular, on-call contract for 6 months. The candidates will have to work for 40 hours per week. The candidates will get a salary of $25.62 to $27.70 on per hour basis. The candidates must have a Journeyman Chef’s certificate. The last date to apply for this position is January 27, 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for cooking and serving meals to about 200 offenders and staff members in their shift. They will give directions to the inmate kitchen helpers. The candidates will make sure that the kitchen is clean and hygienic. They will work with the food safety standards. They will keep an inventory of the food.

Required Qualification:

The candidate should have a Journeyman Chef’s certificate from the Ministry of Colleges. They could also have a combination of education and relevant experience. They should have a valid first aid and heart saver certificate. They should be eligible for the screening requirements.

Experience Needed:

The candidates should have experience in cooking larger meals. They should have experience in cooking special diets. They should know how to follow the standard menu. They should know about food storage. They should be working with the food safety regulations.

Skills and Competencies:

The candidates should have good communication skills. They should be able to work with the staff and inmates. They should have knowledge of food legislation. They should have analytical skills.
